A Story
He was sitting at his favorite slot machine trying to win more than usual so he could take his proceeds and buy some flowers for his wife. She would never expect such a gesture and he smiled at the reaction he knew the flowers would cause. His wins so far were advancing from a small spring arrangement to perhaps romantic roses. A few more four-of-a-kinds and he would head out to the florist with his winnings.
He didn't see them arrive but he knew they were there.
"I didn't expect you today. I thought I had more time. I was going to buy some flowers, and take them home and surprise her."
"No one ever really expects us. Most think the clock is still running," said the Leader. "Our arrival just confirms that it is over."
"So what do I do now?" he asked.
"At this point your part is quite simple. In sixty seconds, you will step out of the body and join us on the trip home."
"I thought it would be more melodramatic," he said. "You know, a final memorable moment prior to departure. Something unique for those I leave here."
"Oh, it will be dramatic," said the Leader. "As you step out, the body will slump over, fall off the stool, hit the lady on your left on the right arm, while proceeding to the floor. She will look to her right, see the body hit the floor, scream and faint."
"Wow. That is dramatic. She won't be hurt will she?" he asked.
"No. No injury, but she'll never forget your departure. She will tell everyone."
"So let's get to it."
-----
The autopsy determined massive heart failure, dead before he hit the floor. The local news media covered it for a few days and wondered if the Royal Flush on the machine caused the heart attack.
He knew the two were unrelated but nobody asked him because he left no forwarding address!
